Why the Playstation Home is a fail.

January 1, 2009

playstation-home-logoPlayStation Home was long waited for to be Xbox Live’s opponent. Playstation Home is kind of similar to Second Life and The Sims, but in a social networking way. It permits users to move freely among a virtual world full of other people wandering about. The basic idea of having a virtual world full of gamers interacting is great, but the way in which Sony accomplished this feat makes it a fail. When you first login into the PS Home, you have to create an avatar representing you. The tools that are given are very deep and permit very precise maneuvers. I, for my part, only created a quick and dirty one because of my impatience. You get a house with couches chairs and so on. You can even change the placement of these objects. Kudos to Sony for implementing such deep customization features. As a side note, the entrance to the PS Home is free. When you begin to walk around the Home Square (the main place for people to meet and hang out) you get bored quickly. It’s pretty much a waste of time walking around a garden or watch an ad for the PSP over and over. Next place: the bowling alley. You go in and have in front of you 4 bowling alleys, 4 pool tables, and 8 mini-games. Mini games include Echochrome, icebreaker and several others. What I have noticed while being there is that: the bowling alleys are always full, and pool tables also. The mini-games are nice to play, but as you would expect, they get boring pretty quickly, but hey, at least they are there! Other main place of the PS Home is the Mall. When I say Mall, you pay with your real money(Yes, the one you wake for every morning to earn!). I mean come on Sony! Make someone pay 3 bucks for a pair of virtual Diesel pants, or even 10 bucks for a secondary virtual house! You must be kidding me. I don’t know if there are many people out there who would be happy to pony up real cash to get virtual stuff. (If so, feel free to disagree in the comments section below). The bottom line is: I would prefer paying an entrance fee as the Xbox Live does, and have a better experience, than having a free entrance and asking 1 cent for every (virtual) step I make. So, Home has been kind of a disappointment for myself, I will still hang around once in a while there, but it still is a bummer. Maybe it’s just me. What will make me like this end of year in the PS3 games lineup

August 31, 2008

This end of year for the PS3 is a very exciting one indeed! With all these games coming out I will have almost too much to play! First of all a game that I am pretty sure I am going to pick up is Resident Evil 5. The trailers and gameplay videos are pretty nice. The main reason this game is appealing to me is that it is a kind of “horror” game which is intended to give the gamer really good sensations. The graphics look very good and the story is pretty good. Next one game that I thought I would have never considered even thinking of buying, Saints Row 2. Before reading a detailed article about the game and the story what the game would be like I was like “Yeah another GTA-like crappy game that will try imitating the GTA like feeling and will probably be a huge mess”. This game is a really attractive one to buy (in my opinion). Next, a massive online game (60 player online) is a must-have for PS3 owners, Resistance 2. This game is the Gears of War for PS3. For the gameplay videos I have seen the game will be a real must-have. Another game to look at for this end of year is LittleBigPlanet. This is a fresh game that looks very appealing. I personally am still investigating whether to buy the game or not (I can’t buy every game that is out!). So, as you have read this end of year is a very exciting one for the gaming industry. Which games are you excited about? Which console do you own? You are welcome to leave a comment talking about what YOU are excited about.

My Thoughts On Gaming

May 5, 2008

I am not much of a gamer. My gaming limits are set by my Macbook because of its low end video card. Now don’t get me wrong I love my Macbook and other Macbook owners can confirm that the Macbook is an awesome computer. But they can also tell you this: the integrated Macbook graphics are not made for hard core gaming. Here are the games that I enjoy to play on my Windows Vista Boot Camp partition: Fifa 08, which is the direct competitor of Pro Evolution Soccer (by the way I have been a long time Fifa fan and have not enjoyed playing PES) and GTA San Andreas, which is a 2004 game that I still enjoy to play with. But because of the console high prices I could not afford one because of the price of the games and the actual game consoles. Read the rest of this entry »
